St. Louis' most anticipated restaurants of 2019

“A week ago, Bernadette Faasen shuttered Woodsmoke BBQ to open a novel, broader-based concept in a new location. Cobalt Smoke & Sea takes surf and turf to a new level with a menu of fresh seafood and “globally inspired smoked meats” (think burnt ends over soba noodles with baby bok choy and leeks, pictured above). Part of Faasen’s mission was to create a vibe "unlike any in the county." Case in point: illuminated trees similar to ones at the Bellagio and a bespoke wrought-iron chandelier sculpted with a pygmy whale skeleton inside.”

At Woodsmoke BBQ, “burnt” is a term of endearment.

“Early next year, Woodsmoke will move to 12643 Olive and rebrand as Cobalt Smoke & Sea, specializing in globally inspired smoked meats, fresh seafood, and, yes, burnt ends.”
