The Matteo’s Mob Foundation
Cobalt Smoke & Sea was born out of a desire to make a difference in the way people eat and commune around the table. Similarly, we believe strongly in making a difference in the quality of lives of those who need help. Whether there’s an individual or a cause, a one-time need or an ongoing contribution, Cobalt works to keep our involvement local, meaningful and financially impactful.
Cobalt has partnered with one local family and its organization, The Matteo’s Mob Foundation, as the beneficiary of its ongoing giving campaign. The Matteo’s Mob Foundation is a local 501C raising money for a national cause – finding a cure for cystic fibrosis – and was founded on behalf of their son, Matteo, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 5 ½ months old. Matteo and his family live in our St. Louis community, and bear the ongoing financial responsibility associated with keeping Matteo healthy and active. All donations will go directly to Matteo’s family to help offset these costs as well as to the The Matteo’s Mob Foundation fund. Read Matteo’s story below, learn more about The Matteo’s Mob Foundation on their website or join the The Matteo’s Mob Foundation Community on Facebook.
Our sole reward is making a positive difference – in our community, for our guests and for those we care about. No matter what amount of money you choose to give, every dollar makes a difference. We believe there is power in numbers. For inquiries about Cobalt’s giving campaign, please contact Bernadette Faasen, Owner. Thank you in advance for your gracious contribution to the The Matteo’s Mob Foundation.
Meet Matteo, a strong and courageous 15-year-old from the local Wildwood community that lives with cystic fibrosis. Diagnosed at 5 ½ months, Matteo has lived the majority of his life battling this disease. CF is a genetic disease that causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs and gastrointestinal organs. This mucus causes difficulty with absorption of nutrients and elimination and is a breeding ground for life-threatening bacteria that compromises lung function and causes irreparable scarring of vital lung tissue. To fight these threats, Matteo spends hours a day performing multiple breathing treatments, vest therapy to clear his airways and takes 40-50 pills a day. The average life expectancy of a CF patient is 47 years of age and many need a double lung transplant in order to reach this age.
Matteo is determined to beat CF and refuses to let it define him. He is a freshman at Eureka High School and plays club-level baseball with his team, the St. Louis Bears. Like most kids his age, he dreams of pursuing a college degree, a career and going as far with baseball as he can. Life with CF makes "Teo" have to work harder than the average kid. He has unstoppable drive and a passion for living every day to the fullest. He lives each day according to his motto, "I'm just livin’ life" despite having spent over 150 days in the hospital fighting a disease that is attacking his body everyday. Unfortunately, there is no cure yet for CF and no government funding for research. Matteo and thousands of other people with CF count on friends like you to care and join us in finding a cure.
